16 city safety briefings · updated weekly Embassy contacts on file for all three host nations Travel insurance from $40 covers up to $1M USD healthcare
Every host city has its own rhythm and its own risks. The hardest pickpocket-zones in Mexico City
aren’t the ones tourists fear; Los Angeles freeway etiquette differs from Toronto; and US medical bills
can end a tournament faster than any group-stage exit. Here’s our city-by-city safety briefing.
Universal · Before you fly
The non-negotiables.
No matter which host city you’re heading to, these four protections apply universally.
Skipping one is a real risk — not a theoretical one.
Travel insurance with at least USD $1M medical coverage. A single broken
ankle in the US can cost more than your entire trip without it.
Two payment cards, stored separately. One in your wallet, one in your hotel
safe. Notify both banks of all three destination countries.
Embassy contact info saved offline (Notes app, not browser bookmarks). All
three host-nation embassies for your home country.
Local SIM / eSIM active from arrival. No data means no Uber, no maps, no
translate, no emergency calls.
Passport photo on your phone — both the bio page and your stamp/eTA.
Reduces hassle if your physical passport is stolen.

Los Angeles
LA: stay where you sleep
LA at night is segmented — some neighbourhoods (Skid Row, parts of South LA) you genuinely should not
be wandering in. Stay near Inglewood, Santa Monica, Culver City, or Downtown LA. Always use Uber/Lyft after
dark; the Metro is fine during the day.

New York / New Jersey
NYC: subway after midnight
The NYC subway is safe by day. After 11 pm, stick to busier lines (1/2/3, A/C/E, 4/5/6) and well-lit
stations. The PATH train to NJ runs all night. For MetLife match days, NJ Transit is heavily policed.

Dallas / Arlington
Dallas: heat is the threat
June crime rates in Arlington are low, but June temperatures hit 38°C+. Heatstroke is the bigger risk
than petty crime. Walk only with bottled water, sunscreen, and a hat. Match-day traffic is brutal —
budget 90 min to reach AT&T Stadium.

Miami
Miami: rideshare over rental
Tourist-targeted scams happen in South Beach (fake taxi flags, distraction theft). Use Uber/Lyft
exclusively. Hard Rock Stadium area has limited late-night options — book your return ride before
kick-off.

Atlanta
Atlanta: MARTA stays central
Stay on MARTA-connected zones: Downtown, Midtown, Buckhead, Decatur. Don’t wander beyond MARTA stops
after dark. Mercedes-Benz Stadium area is heavily policed on match days.

Remaining US host cities
All follow the same playbook: avoid late-night isolated walks, use rideshare in unfamiliar areas, keep one
card in the hotel safe. Houston’s heat is the biggest weather concern; Seattle the most unexpectedly
safe; Philadelphia’s Center City is among the easiest to navigate.

Toronto
Toronto: textbook safe
Toronto is one of the safest large cities in North America. The TTC streetcars and subway run reliably
until 1:30 am. The biggest risk is overspending on Bay Street. BMO Field crowds will be massive on match
days — arrive 90 minutes early.
Consulate Toronto911
Vancouver
Vancouver: pack a rain layer
Vancouver in June can deliver three seasons in a day. The Downtown Eastside (between Main & Gore
Avenue) has visible street drug issues — not dangerous to walk through, just unsettling. Stay in
Yaletown, Gastown or West End.

Healthcare for visitors
Canada’s public system doesn’t cover non-residents. Travel insurance is essential — an ER
visit without coverage runs CAD $500-2,500. Most Canadian pharmacies sell common medications over the
counter that require prescriptions in the US/UK.

Mexico City
CDMX: smarter than its reputation
Roma, Condesa, Polanco, Centro Histórico are extremely safe by day and night — busier than most
European cities. Avoid Tepito, Iztapalapa, and the outer Metro lines after dark. Use Uber or Cabify; avoid
hailing street taxis. Tap water is unsafe — bottled only.
Embassy CDMX911 / 060
Guadalajara
Guadalajara: stay central
The Centro Histórico, Chapultepec, Lafayette, and Providencia neighbourhoods are safe day and night. Avoid
the outer ring of the city. Tapatío hospitality is famous — locals are remarkably helpful with
directions and recommendations.
Consulate GDL911
Monterrey
Monterrey: San Pedro is safest
San Pedro Garza García is one of the safest, wealthiest districts in all of Latin America — the
obvious place to base yourself. Centro Monterrey is fine by day, less so after 11 pm. The mountain views
from Cerro de la Silla are spectacular at sunset.

Your data SIM will sometimes fail. Save your own country’s embassy phone numbers in each host city
— in your phone’s Notes app, not just in a bookmark. Take a photo of your passport bio page.
Photograph your printed match tickets. The five minutes you spend doing this can save your tournament.
